Functional Capacity Evaluation
The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a test assessing an individual's physical capacities and functional abilities. The test establishes the physical level of work an individual can perform (as defined by the Department of Labor: sedentary, light, medium or heavy) and matches these performance levels to the demands of a specific job or work activity. The FCE is useful in determining job placement, job accommodation, or return to work after an injury or illness. Through this process, OccuSport Physical Therapy staff will work with:
- Treating physician
- Independent medical examiner
- Insurance company
- Employer
- Lawyers
Post-Offer Testing or Fit for Duty Testing
We utilize the WorkSTEPS Functional Employment Testing Program for our Post-Offer and Fit for Duty evaluations. All testing is EEOC- and ADA-compliant and our staff can assist employers in developing policies and procedures to initiate the protocols. These tests include over 30 objective measurements and will provide the employer with information regarding a candidate’s ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- EEOC- and ADA-compliant
- Over 30 objective measurements
- Policy writing assistance for employers
- Same-day reporting to employer
- Identify if potential employee is capable or not capable
Work Hardening & Conditioning
Following injuries, employees will undergo appropriate medical treatment, which may include physical therapy. When maximum benefits have been obtained with therapy, employees are not always capable of performing all job duties safely. This is when work hardening or work conditioning is appropriate.
These programs are offered to patients who need to increase strength, endurance and positional tolerance. The employees’ current physical capabilities are determined in a baseline evaluation and then they participate in structured, 2- to 6-hour daily programs. The goal is to return injured workers to gainful employment as soon as possible.
Work Risk Analysis
OccuSport Physical Therapy performs a comprehensive evaluation of the workplace, reviewing activities on the jobsite and techniques used by workers. We also assist employers in identifying high-risk jobs. OccuSport staff determines if there is any risk for injury or if there is room for improvement in productivity. A report of our observations and recommendations is provided to the employers.
Educational Programs For Employees
Safety in the workplace begins before an employee even starts work. At OccuSport Physical Therapy, we offer several industrial programs to address the needs of employers, injured workers, insurance companies, case managers, and other referral sources. Safety in the workplace requires a team effort between employers and employees. Our educational programs include:

Job Analysis
A job analysis is a process used to identify the important tasks of a job and the essential skills a person needs to successfully and safely perform the job. An analysis can be instrumental in selecting individuals for employment and in determining if an employee is ready to work following an injury.
